As the popularity of the internet continues to grow more students will use Google and Yahoo for sources on papers. These sources sometimes do not provide the most accurate information because they can be peer reviewed data and are not necessarily checked by any authority of professional. This is becoming a major problem in research today, students can’t find good information for papers. They do not know how to search for credible sources on the internet. Some colleges are providing classes to teach students how to use credible internet databases. These classes are being taut by librarians who understand the importance of finding reliable information when researching. Librarians’ at many schools offer classes or seminars on how to use the databases provided by the school and how to look up credible information on the internet. I think that this is a great use of library resources because in the future more and more information searching is going to be done on the internet. It is a skill that everyone needs to know so it is important that classes are offered to teach it. The development of some search engines such as Google scholar will help students find reliable sources easier. Every day the process of finding information is becoming easier. So as schools teach these research techniques they need to be aware of the new technology and developments that are being released that can help students find information in the easiest ways. One day in the future it will not be a problem to find reliable sources because search engines will have developed ways to sort out the credible sources but until that day comes it is important for libraries to help students recognize what is good source.
